“SPS3,” Secondary
Prevention
of Small Subcortical Strokes Trial |

Eligibilty |
| |
|
Participants must be:
• At least 40 years old, and
• Have had at least one clinical symptom of a small subcortical stroke within
the previous three months.
Participants cannot:
• Have had a disabling stroke
• Have difficulty speaking or understanding words
• Have a high risk of bleeding
• Be participating in another study to test a drug or medical device. |

Participant Involvement |

Participants must complete a comprehensive brain
functioning test before beginning the study. They must come to
the Berman Center for blood pressure monitoring monthly for the
first three months of the study and then quarterly for the next
two years for blood pressure monitoring and to answer health questions.
After one year, the comprehensive brain functioning test must be
repeated. If the participant also has diabetes, blood tests will
also be conducted. |
